The Old Telephone
Your puzzle is on page 40 of the book. Open one hint at a time: often the first one is enough.
On old phones you press a key once for its first letter, twice for its second letter, and so on. Spaces separate the letters.
Check your answer
Nothing is revealed if you are wrong.
First hint
Each group of the same digit is one letter. 66 means key 6 pressed twice.
Second hint
Key 6 has M, N, O. Pressed twice gives N.
Solution
7777 = S, 66 = N, 666 = O, 9 = W, 6 = M, 2 = A, 66 = N. The answer is SNOWMAN.
The same hints and solutions are printed in the book (pages 56, 58 and 60).
